Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy Massage is a style of bodywork designed specifically for pregnant women. Pregnancy is a time when a woman’s body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical and emotional changes. Using various techniques, specially developed for the expecting mother, this massage helps release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy.
The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance. Plus improved breathing and relaxation. Some clients may be required to provide a medical release.
Clients can schedule in half hour increments up to a 90 minute session. SKP Massage offers two prenatal packages to save you money. The Oh Baby! Package is $400 for ten, 60 minute sessions, that’s a savings of $105! This package works out to a massage once a month for nine months and a bonus relaxation massage after the baby arrives, because we all know Mommas need a break, especially after having a baby. This is ten sessions total. SKP Massage also offers ‘The Kicker” Package. This package includes twenty Prenatal Massage sessions for $800, that’s a savings of $300!! Massage & Anxiety

Massage is widely used all over the world to promote deep relaxation and anxiety reduction. Changes in EEG activity, reduced cortisol levels, and increased parasympathetic nervous system activity, which works naturally to relax the body and mind under stress, are considered to be responsible for massage’s anxiety-relieving and mood-enhancing benefits.

Moderate pressure massage reduces pain associated with fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis better than light pressure massage, according to several studies. By boosting the activity of natural killer cells, moderate pressure massage increases attention and boosts the body’s immune response. Several regions of the brain involved in regulating emotions and stress response, such as the amygdala and hypothalamus, have been observed to alter in functional brain imaging investigations.

It is difficult to examine the beneficial advantages of massage therapy using contemporary research techniques since it is impossible to create a double-blind trial in which the individual receiving massage therapy is “blinded” to treatment. Furthermore, measuring the physical and psychological benefits of massage in controlled trials is challenging. Many studies are limited by the lack of a sham control group, which is a group that receives treatment from someone acting as a massage therapist but who lacks skill. The difficulty is exacerbated by the fact that few massage therapists are trained in scientific techniques or work in institutions where sham-controlled research may be conducted.

“In spite of the paucity of published research evidence, regular massage is a widely used technique in many cultures to treat chronic stress and anxiety and deserves serious consideration. Consistent anecdotal evidence, a long history of widespread use of massage for stress reduction, and positive findings of open trials support the view that regular massage therapy reduces the severity of chronic moderate anxiety in general, and specifically when anxiety is related to test-taking or problem-solving, work stress or the anticipation of invasive medical procedures,” (Lake, MD, Massage Therapy for Anxiety and Stress).
