Passive and Active Stretching

Passive and Active Stretching-Looking to increase your flexibility, or just needing a good stretch? This is it! Depending on the length of time, the therapist will focus on stretching major muscles of the body from head to toe. Passive stretching is a technique in which you are relaxed and make no contribution to the range of motion. Instead, an outside agent creates force, either manually or mechanically.

Active stretching involves purposefully contracting the muscle you are trying to stretch. One example of active stretching is lying on your back on the floor and lifting a straight leg to the ceiling until you feel your hamstring stretch . Examples of passive stretching include using a towel, band, gravity or another person to help you stretch.

Muscle of the Month

Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis

The muscle most affected in Lateral Epicondylitis or Tennis Elbow is Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis. Found in the lateral part of the posterior forearm, it originates from the lateral epicondyle and inserts at the third metacarpal.

Innervated by the radial nerve, it’s action is to extend and abduct the hand at the wrist joint.

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”

5 Benefits of Massage

Benefit #4 – Improved Posture

Massage might assist you in bettering your posture. A wide range of people are affected by poor posture. Poor posture may be caused by a number of factors, the most frequent of which are employment and physical activity. Muscle strain, joint stiffness, and discomfort are all symptoms of poor posture.

To enhance posture, a deep tissue massage might be utilized. Deep tissue massage focuses on the connective tissues and muscle fibers in the deepest layers of the body. Depending on the person’s choice or the sort of disease the therapist is treating, varying pressure is given along the soft tissue areas.

A deep tissue massage can help to enhance mobility and range of motion by reducing muscular stiffness and tightness. By decreasing stiffness and discomfort, increased mobility and range of motion help posture return to normal.
